the day the earth succumbed to the water

The tiny spider came to lounge beside me while I was taking in the sun. I had stopped here to sit at the base of the tree, running my hands over its moss covered roots, as I could venture no further on my usual path. Although the river had run over most of it, I managed to wade out through the chilly water to rest on this small dry spot. The birds were chattering and I heard the splash of a small fish.. I can only assume exploring its newly expanded territory. I had blood and water on my mind, originally intending to give a few drops to the river and scry. However, being unable to go as far back as I would have liked, I decided to just sit instead. I would have to come back another day.. so I laid an offering to the tree and perched on the edge of this place where the earth had succumbed (albeit temporarily) to the water.
